Bishop Melanie Rogers Miller

Presiding Prelate of the Western Episcopal District of the

African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church


Bishop Miller, born five of six children to Harmon and Agnes Rogers, is a native of Paterson, NJ, who attended Paterson Public Schools. After graduating from John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson, NJ, she attended Rutgers University and Cook College in New Brunswick, NJ. She earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Occupational and Technical Studies from Old Dominion University (ODU), Norfolk, VA in 1994. She graduated with a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology and, in 2009, received her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Higher Education from ODU. In May 2019, she received the Doctor of Ministry degree from Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, in Biblical Interpretation and Proclamation. 


Bishop Miller is an educator who taught graduate courses in higher education at Old Dominion and Ashford Universities and undergraduate studies at Old Dominion University. She was a secondary school Technology Education teacher of manufacturing, construction, and production and an engineering-architectural board and computer-aided drafting instructor at the Norfolk and Stafford County Virginia public schools.


In August 2009, Bishop Miller was commissioned and served as a Chaplain in the United States Navy until July 2023, after attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. In her last assignment in the Navy, she was the first Chaplain Program Officer for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Navy Recruiting Command. She also served as a chaplain for the Bergen County Prosecutors Office, Bergen County, NJ.


Her awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Fleet Marine Force Warfare pin. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.


Bishop Miller is an ordained Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. 

She has pastored four AME Zion Churches nationwide, beginning at Sycamore Hill, Gates, NC; Martin Temple, Compton, CA; Varick Memorial, Hackensack, NJ; and last, St. Paul AME Zion Church in Ewing, NJ. She serves in many capacities on the connectional, conference, and district levels, including The Board of Schools

and College’s secretary; The Harriet Tubman House, Inc. Board member; New Jersey Conference – Finance Committee Chair, Budget Committee Chair (2016-2023); Trustee Board member; Conference Studies Professor and Board of Examiners. Camden District – Admissions Committee Chair. At the 52nd Session of the General Conference, Rev. Dr. Melanie Miller was elected the 110th bishop in the line of succession for the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and currently serves as the Presiding Prelate of the Western Episcopal District.


Bishop Miller is married to CDR Jimmie L. Miller, USN Retired, and they have four children: three sons, Jimmie, Jr., Jerome, and Jason, one daughter, Jetaime, and raised a nephew, Lamar. They are the proud grandparents of eight and claim Lamar’s three children, bringing their total to 11.


She rests on the scriptural passage Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”


Rev. Jimmie L. Miller

Co-Missionary Supervisor of the Western Episcopal District of the

African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church


Rev. Jimmie L. Miller is a 27-year veteran of the U. S. Navy and a 30-year veteran of the ministry. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering Technologies from Old Dominion University and a Master of Science in Management from Troy University. Additionally, he served as the commanding officer of the Navy recruiting district in Los Angeles, executive officer of the nuclear submarine USS RHODE ISLAND, and various other high-ranking leadership positions. As commanding officer, he was directly responsible for over 330 military and civilian personnel and managed a budget of over 10 million dollars. Commander (retired) Jimmie Miller served six years as the Area Manager of the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Program (NJROTC), Northeast, where he supervised 155 instructors and over 10 thousand cadet students. He is now the District One Operations Manager for NJROTC, supervising Area Managers in the East and Europe. Rev. Miller served as pastor of numerous churches throughout Zion. These include Zion Temple AME Zion in Gainesville, FL; Red Oak Grove AME Zion in Gates, NC; Martin Temple AME Zion, Compton, CA; Greater Metropolitan AME Zion in Norfolk, VA; and St Thomas AME Zion Church, Somerville, NJ. Rev. Jimmie Miller served as the Director of Evangelism for the New Jersey Conference and as a Supernumerary Minister at St Paul AME Zion Church, Ewing, NJ. He was appointed Co-Missionary Supervisor of the Western Episcopal District by Bishop Melanie Miller at the 52nd Session of the General Conference. He is the first man to serve as a missionary supervisor in The AME Zion Church.


Rev. Miller has numerous certifications, including Naval Nuclear Engineer,

Resource Management and Analysis, and Education and Training Management,

to name a few. Commander Miller was the first African American awarded the Fredrick D. Wadder Award for submarine excellence. Rev. Miller is a native of Paterson, New Jersey, married to Rev. Dr. Melanie Miller, also of Paterson, New Jersey. Together they have 4 children and 8 grandchildren.

Mrs. Rosalyn "Terry" Holland

Co-Missionary Supervisor of the Western Episcopal District of the

African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church


A native of Staten Island, New York, Rosalyn Holland is the youngest of two children born to Mrs. Ida Willis and the late Emerson Willis, Sr. A graduate of Port Richmond High School, Rosalyn was educated in the public school system of New York City. On October 10, 1998, she married the love of her life and her gift from God, Harrison Holland. They are the proud parents of Gregory Holland. Currently residing in Hackensack, NJ, 

Rosalyn holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Communication from Kaplan University and a Master's in Information Technology with a concentration in Web Design and Development from the University of Denver. She believes it is never too late to fulfill a dream, having completed her Bachelor's degree in 2014 and her Master's in 2018.


Professionally, Rosalyn held positions at Home Life Insurance Company as a Loan Specialist and then at Guardian Life Insurance Company of America as a Systems Analyst and Senior Programmer until her retirement. Over her extensive career, she has shown resilience and dedication, surviving four major company cutbacks.


Rosalyn gave her life to Christ at an early age and has faithfully served Him throughout her life. She received her early Christian education in a Pentecostal church. There, she was taught to love people and remain faithful to her faith in Jesus Christ. After her father's passing in 1974, she united with her mother's church, Shiloh AME Zion, in Staten Island and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. Lemuel Turner in April 1975. At Shiloh, she served on the Usher Board, as Christian Education Youth Director, and as the Superintendent of Buds.


Rosalyn has served the church of her choice as Second Vice President of the Assembly of Christian Educators and a member of the New Jersey Conference Education Committee. And serves the Jersey City District as Director of Christian Education, Financial Secretary, Budget Committee member, as well as the  Secretary for her local church.


Rosalyn is a Christian Educator who has a passion for God’s people, and there is nothing in life more rewarding than seeing the excitement in a person’s eye when they understand what God is telling them. 

Upon the election of Rev. Dr. Melanie Rogers Miller during the 52nd Session of the General Conference as the 110th Bishop in the line of secession, Rosalyn was honored to be asked to serve as the Co-Missionary Supervisor to the Western Episcopal District, where blessings flow, and the joy of the Lord is intense.
